Guided Tours for groups

Guided tours of Preston Manor are available for groups.

 


Visit Preston Manor and step back in time in this perfectly preserved Edwardian gentry home. During your visit, your group will discover how the upper classes and their servants lived ‘upstairs downstairs’ in the early 19th century. Preston Manor is considered Brighton’s most haunted house and was featured in Living TV’s ‘Most Haunted’.
Your group visit will encompass visiting the 20 rooms over four floors in Preston Manor from the owners beautiful family rooms ‘downstairs’ to the servants' quarters ‘upstairs’, kitchens and butler's pantry. You will also have the opportunity to tour the beautiful walled gardens and the fascinating pets' cemetery.

The Manor can accommodate groups of up to 53 at any one time (larger groups will be split into twomore groups). Guided tours and Ghost tours are available for groups of up to 30 people (larger groups will be split into two or more tour groups).

There are a number of ways of enhancing a group’s visit to Preston Manor:


‘Upstairs Downstairs’ tour (max 30 per group) – All year 1 hour
During the Indian summer of Britain just before the First World War, the Stanford family was living in the Manor with their fifteen servants. The house remains as if they were still there. This tour will immerse you into the intimacy of a wealthy Edwardian Family. Please note that only guides employed by Preston Manor are permitted to conduct tours within the building.
Price: £40 per group


Ghost tour (max 30 per group) – All year 90 minutes
During your tour, your group will hear spooky tales of the ghosts that have haunted The Manor through the ages including Sister Agnes the medieval nun, the disembodied hand, the White Lady and the elegant Lady in Grey who descends the grand staircase with nowhere to go. You will learn about the creepy doors in the Manor that lock themselves, the lights that turn off for no reason and the ghostly hand seen holding onto a doorknob!

Gift Shop
There is a gift shop at the Manor offering a range of interesting, quality gifts and souvenirs.

Prices
Pre-booked groups of 15 or more people benefit from a discount. Pre-booked groups also benefit from one free ticket for very 15 paying guests and free entry for the coach driver. Walk up groups will pay the full price (see below).

Opening hours

Preston Manor is open from April-September. You can, however, pre-book groups from October-March for group tours only. We do not accept unaccompanied visits during the winter months.

Disabled access
The basement and ground floor of the Manor are wheelchair accessible but due to the nature of the Manor House the rest of the floors are currently accessed via a staircase only. Please notify us when you are booking if there are any wheelchair users in your group or any people requiring extra assistance.
On arrival, please ring the bell at the bottom of the front entrance steps to alert staff. Access is via a ramped side entrance at basement level and the ground floor is accessed via a lift. The walled garden and pets’ graveyard are accessible to wheelchairs from Preston Park.


How to get there
Preston Manor is situated ten minutes outside of Brighton city centre, a 10 minute walk from Preston Park Station. Train journey time is approximately 45 minutes from London Victoria and 30 minutes from Gatwick airport. Buses stop outside Preston Park.
Parking
Free parking available is available on site for visitors to Preston Manor. Enter the drive from the entrance on Preston Drove.
Public transport
Preston Park rail station with connections to London, Gatwick and Luton is a 5-minute walk away. It is on local bus routes 5, 5A, 59.
On arrival
Groups should make their way to the admissions office on arrival where their tickets will be waiting for them. You will need your booking reference and group name to collect your tickets and payment if applicable.

How to book
Booking is essential for group visits - group rates only apply to pre-booked groups. Guided tours, lunches and afternoon tea must be pre-booked. Our dedicated group sales team can help you to plan your ideal day out. Booking is simple call our booking office 03000 290901 (+44 (0)1273 292 820)

Notes
1. We may refuse admission for groups who have not booked or who arrive late.
2. We require at least two working days’ notice to cancel or amend your booking or the fee may be charged in full. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel a guided tour, the guiding fee will not be charged and the group can enter non-guided.
3. We will allocate your group a timed slot, this helps us avoid overcrowding in the buildings and ensures an enjoyable visit for your guests. We appreciate your help in adhering to these times. In the event you are delayed please contact the booking office on +44 (0)3000 290901 and we will do our best to find another slot for your group on the same day.
If you group is arriving more than 15 minutes late we cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer you a tour but will always do our best.
4. Group leaders are responsible for the behaviour of the group and must remain with them at all times. Any groups posing a threat to the health, safety and enjoyment of other visitors will be asked to leave. Children aged under-16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
